Lafayette, LA

Wow. Didn't realize how long it had been since I posted. Sorry about that!

Gonna try to catch up now...

Over the 4th of July weekend, we took a family trip to Destin, Florida (more pictures to be posted). On the way there, we stopped in Lafayette, Louisiana to eat some Cajun food, take a swamp tour, and it was a good halfway point on our drive to Florida.

And we're off! The kids played with their transformer toys from McD's and watched movies most of the drive there...

Daniel and I entertained each other...
Didn't take many pictures once we got on the road. It took us about 8 hours to get to Lafayette. Once we got there, we checked into our hotel, took our bags up and went to grab a bite to eat, Cajun style. We picked a hole-in-the-wall place thinking it would be great food, and we were sadly disappointed. The only picture we took from that evening...

The next morning, we headed out to take the swamp tour. Good thing we scheduled a 9:30am tour, because it was definitely hot and humid and the afternoon tour would not have been as much fun.

Family photo...
Me and the sillies...Here we go...Jacob checking out the water...
The guy with the straw hat was our guide. He had a very heavy Cajun accent...Gators! Eeeek!! We saw four gators and, as you can tell by the pictures, we got seriously close to one of them (our zoom on the camera is not that good. Trust me.). It made me want to run for my life, but we were in a boat. So I kept my cool and told the kids to keep their hands in the boat as well. The momma gator was not happy to have us there and so close to her eggs too. A little bit scary, especially when she hissed at us.
On to a prettier subject, water lilies...
This is when Ella and I were starting to get hot, and she started to really fuss...There were several duck blinds set up in the water. Daniel was in heaven. The tour guide took us into this one...

After the tour, we decided to give Cajun cuisine another try at Mulate's for lunch. It's supposed to be a well known restaurant. We were disappointed yet again. After lunch, we went back to the hotel to relax a little. The kids were jumping all over the place and making some noise, so we found a near by park and let them run amuck to get their energy out...

By the time we decided they had had enough, it was dinner time. We chose to go with a place we knew would be a sure bet, Chili's. Mmm...

Ella even tried her first corn on the cob (which she didn't like. She prefers corn NOT on the cob)...Sleepy time, then drive to Florida!
