Well, we survived our first road trip with the kids...barely. We left Friday afternoon and stopped about five hours later in Little Rock, Arkansas. That in itself is a another entry, so I'll spare you the details.
We arrived in Southhaven, MS on Saturday afternoon to visit Daniel's Grandma who is currently in the hospital.
She gave us the biggest smile when we walked into her room with the kids. Cheryl, Daniel's aunt (dad's side), said it was the first time she had smiled all day. It was so great to see her, even in her weakened condition. We love her so much. Jacob said, "Gran's tuckered." Wish we could have stayed longer to visit.
A few hours later, we were on the road again to stay with Daniel's other aunt (mom's side) for the night. Sunday morning, we packed up the car again, and headed south to New Albany for the Murrah family reunion. Jacob took his first boat ride there.
Minutes after Daniel and Jacob went out on the boat, the rain poured down and soaked them through. We made Jacob change clothes in the car. A little later, Daniel took him on a tour of the Murrah house (where Daniel's grandad grew up and where the annual family reunion is held).
Jacob and his great-grandmommie (Lynda)...
Wish we could have taken more pictures of the house and the reunion (the history is amazing) but like I said, it was raining so hard, everybody stayed in the house, or under tents that were put up outside.
Most of us met at Lynda's house and we hung out there for a few hours catching up with family and taking photos of the great grandbabies.
Then it was time for us to leave and head back to Dallas. Jacob was such a trouper and handled all of the traveling and running around like a champ. Ella on the other hand, didn't get much sleep and got sick halfway through the weekend, so she kept both Daniel and I up the three nights we were away. Needless to say, Monday was a day of catching up.
I guess it was our "test" road trip. We plan to head north to New York for Thanksgiving. Did I mention we're driving? And did I also mention that we're crazy?! Yes, well, I'll just say we like to keep things interesting in our house.
